Welcome to Riverton Kindergarten

Riverton Kindy Logo

The Governing Council and staff welcome you to Riverton Kindergarten. We value and care for all children at our centre and strive to provide a safe and caring learning environment.

Our purpose is to provide every child with the opportunity to develop to their full potential through quality care and teaching.

The Kindergarten encourages a rich and relevant play based curriculum to support the development of the whole child. Children are actively engaged in hands on experiences and activities that are relevant to their lives and builds upon previous knowledge and interests.

The focus is on fostering dispositions for learning such as curiosity and persistence, a positive self-esteem, interpersonal skills such as communication, cooperation, sharing and making friends. Children are encouraged to explore new concepts, skills and problems.

Session Times

Children who turn four before May 1st of each year are entitled to 30 hours per fortnight of preschool. This is currently offered as 2 full days on odd weeks and 3 full days on even weeks across Monday to Wednesday.

In 2015 we are offering a modified pre-entry program for 2016 enrolments which includes an induction session and several short play sessions. Some additional time may be available for children who have a verified disability, are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander or English as an Additional Language or under Guardianship of the Minister. Please contact the Director for further details.

Rural Care

The DECD Rural Care program is a long day care program that is operated in and alongside a DECD preschool program. The service is offered in smaller rural communities that are unable to sustain viable child care options. This is made possible with support from the Australian and State Governments. Rural Care provides care from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, Monday to Friday, for 4 under school age and 3 over school age children per session. The DECD Rural Care Program is an approved service for the purpose of Australian Government Child Care Benefit (CCB) www.familyassist.gov.au

Playgroup is an informal session where parents, carers, babies and young children up to school age can come together in a relaxed environment and socialise. Our Playgroup is an affiliated member of the Playgroup Association of South Australia Inc. As such all families attending must become members of the association. There are many benefits to being a member, including insurance cover, member discounts, newspapers and newsletters, professional support and events. Our Playgroup currently operates on Thursday Mornings.
